Music has influenced Jason in many ways. Jason grew up in West Des Moines where he started playing the piano in kindergarten. He then picked up a cello for a couple years, and eventually started drumming in fifth grade.
In junior high, he joined the jazz band and got his first experiences playing a full drum set. Jazz music has been central to his musical career, as much of his experience performing comes from playing in big bands and jazz combos.
Jason states that hip-hop music has also influenced him, specifically artists such as “The Roots” who “incorporate diverse instrumentation, not just tracks, into their music.” Jason is also a big fan of jam bands and the musical conversations that ensue.
He is currently studying biology and chemistry, with an emphasis on plant biosciences. When not studying or drumming, I can be found hanging from cliffs. “I’m an avid outdoorsman and enjoy rock climbing more than anything.”
